Red Skull Confirmed as CAPTAIN AMERICA Villain

ShockTillYouDrop.com Managing Editor Ryan Rotten is reporting that a press conference, Joe Johnston, director of the coming "The First Avenger: Captain America" said that Red Skull will be the villain of the first Captain America movie. They are also reportedly setting this movie during World War II era.

"Virtually the entire story except the bookends are in World War II because we all recognize we have one chance to tell the origin story of how he became Captain America, you can't tell a modern story and then go back and tell the origin story. If you're going to do it, let's do it. Let's do it first. Everyone wanted to tell an origin story. There was a version where it was a modern story and it didn't work."

Taylor Lautner will be STRETCH ARMSTRONG

 
Yahoo! is reporting that Universal Pictures has confirmed that Taylor Lautner star as "Stretch Armstrong", a character based upon a large, gel-filled action figure first introduced in 1976 by Kenner that was later re-issued in the 1990s with a canine sidekick, "Fetch Armstrong".

The "Stretch Armstrong" movie is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2012.

FAST AND FURIOUS Sequel (aka FAST FIVE) Coming in 2011

Variety is reporting that Universal is preparing for a fifth film in the "Fast and the Furious" franchise. What can this new story be about? The script is still in the works. I guess there are a lot of potential stories out there, but I think moviegoers want something a little more substantive than the last film.

Universal Pictures is hitting the accelerator on a fifth installment of "Fast and Furious," currently being referred to as "Fast Five."

Studio has closed deals with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, director Justin Lin and producer Neal Moritz to return to the franchise, which has become one of the studio's most lucrative.

TERMINATOR Franchise Up for Sell, Sony Makes Bid

 

According to Variety Sony has joined Lionsgate in the bidding fight for the rights to the "Terminator" franchise. The "Terminator" franchise still has future potential in the movie business. A remake of the franchise is in order after the horrible latest installment "Terminator: Salvation".

The studio had no comment but a source close to the bidding confirmed that Sony submitted a bid Thursday, the final day for submitting offers.

Lionsgate stepped up last month as the first bidder for the rights to the "Terminator" franchise with a "stalking horse" or floor bid of $15 million and a 5% cut of future gross receipts.

Halcyon Group put the franchise up for sale in September-. The auction for the "Terminator" assets -- which include the rights to future "Terminator" pics, TV series, DVDs and merchandise -- will be held Monday at the offices of FTI Consulting in Los Angeles, followed by a bankruptcy court hearing two days later.

THE LOST SYMBOL (Da Vinci Code 3) Moving Forward @ Columbia Pictures

 

According to Variety, Columbia Pictures is moving forward with "The Lost Symbol", the 3rd film in "The Da Vinci Code" franchise. The story sounds like something from "National Treasure" a tad bit..... The second film "Angels & Demons" was a little boring!

Based on the Dan Brown thriller of the same name, "Lost Symbol" finds protag Robert Langdon summoned to Washington, D.C., where he begins decoding the symbols of the Freemasons.

Tom Hanks, who played Langdon in "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons," has not yet committed to reprise the role, though he is expected to. Imagine topper Brian Grazer and John Calley have signed on to produce the latest installment.

Though "The Da Vinci Code" grossed $758 million worldwide in 2006, "Angels and Demons" fell short of that mark last year with a $486 million worldwide haul.

Still, the studio has high hopes for "Lost Symbol," which was a mammoth bestseller last year. The Doubleday book sold more than 1 million copies its first day in print in September.

News Corp. (20th Century Fox) in Talks for AVATAR 2

 
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that News Corporation (the parent company of 20th Century Fox Film Corporation) is in very early talks with James Cameron about "Avatar 2".

Asked about potential "Avatar" sequels, chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch said on his quarterly earnings call Tuesday that the conglomerate is in "very early talks about it." Director James Cameron "has ideas" for a sequel, he said, adding: "We will be pushing for one."

But he cautioned analysts not to "hold your breath for an early one" in a possible reference to Cameron projects often taking a long time to come to fruition.

News Corp. deputy chairman, president and COO Chase Carey interjected that both sides want to make another movie. "We certainly both intend to have one," he said.
