Warner Bros. Sets THE DARK KNIGHT Sequel (Batman 3) Release Date

 

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Warner Bros. has set Batman 3 for release on July 20, 2012, according to an internal email just sent by distribution chief Dan Fellman. There is no official start of production date at this point because Chris Nolan just completed "Inception", the film that opens July 16, 2010. 

The film is expected to be done in 3D, as studio chief Alan Horn told theater owners at ShoWest that all Warner Bros tent poles will be done that way. Of course, Nolan will make the final decision, he's the most dominant director presence the studio has. Nolan's brother and oft-collaborator Jonathan Nolan has been working on the script, based on a story hatched by the writer and David Goyer.

Expectations are high for this next installment, but being realistic, it will most likely not be as good. It's very hard to repeat success like what "The Dark Knight" had. Am I wrong?

"The Dark Knight" Sequel (Next Batman Movie) Filming Next Year

According to a post via ComingSoon.net, Gary Oldman at Comic-Con made the following statement while at the "Book of Eli" panel:

"I think the next Batman is next year," he told a fan who asked about when the long-awaited "Dark Knight" follow-up would hit, "We start shooting next year. You didn't hear that from me." 

Don't hold your breath, though it may happen....

"The Dark Knight" (Batman) Sequel in 2011

Behind every dream project is a dreamer and in the case of "The Dark Knight," that dreamer was Michael Uslan.

Uslan will be onboard as executive producer for the "Dark Knight" sequel, which he estimates will be theaters by 2011. As for the identity of the next round of Batman's supervillains and love interests, Uslan remains tight-lipped. "It's one of those deals where if I told you, I'd have to kill you," he says with a chuckle.

A long wait.....and it will be worth the wait.

"The Dark Knight" Hitting Theatres Again?

It is going to be hard for "The Dark Knight" to win any acting Oscars. Historically, these types of movies don't get any acknowledgement besides special effects, costumes, make up, and sound.

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that Warner Bros. wants a statuette -- or 10 -- for "The Dark Knight." So the studio plans to rerelease its blockbuster Batman sequel in January, the height of Academy Awards voting season.

"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a studio insider said.

Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with Imax executives about the prospect of restoring the Christian Bale starrer to some number of giant-screen venues in January. It's uncertain if "Dark Knight" also will reappear in conventional venues at that point.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film's huge commercial and critical success has spurred talk of possible Oscar nominations for its director, producers and cast -- most specifically Bale's co-star, Health Ledger, for the late actor's edgy performance as the Joker.

"The Dark Knight" Nears $900 Million Worldwide

The most recent installment of "The Dark Knight" nears the $900 million mark in world-wide box office receipts. This is an amazing journey for an old comic book sequel. The film is expected to break $900 million this weekend. I expect the DVD/Blu Ray sales to be off the charts when it's released for home entertainment.

Variety reports that the crossing of the $400 million milestone will place "The Dark Knight" in a club with only 29 other films. What’s equally impressive about the sixth Batpic is that it’s first in the series to generate a blockbuster number outside the U.S. "Batman Begins" generated the previous high number with a relatively modest $166 million.

The U.K. has led the way for "Dark Knight" with $86 million, followed by Australia with $40 million, Mexico with $25 million, Brazil with $19 million and South Korea with $18.6 million. With Germany in its second weekend and France in its third, and worldwide grosses going past $900 million this weekend, the Batpic may have enough firepower to become only the fourth film to hit $1 billion in combined foreign and domestic box office (after "Titanic," the third "The Lord of the Rings" and the second "Pirates of Caribbean").
